Starbuck made a very good comment before I left for vacation, Internet Explorer 8 isn’t that bad except for no ad blocking like Firefox + extension Adblock Plus. I agreed and wondered if there was a native way to block ads (without use of a third party app). It so happens there is a way.
Without copy and pasting the article, I’ll include a link and mention that it’s rather easy. You download a URL database file (xml file containing all the advert addresses – included in linked article) and add it to your personal filters in IE8 (tools >manage add-ons>InPrivate Filtering>import). Now you have a squeaky clean browsing experience…. except you can see the spaces the ads should be whereas Adblock in Firefox hides those spaces. Oh well, at least we don’t see them.
