I can’t tell you how sick I am of angst-ridden, Emo vampires these days. *cough*Twilight*cough* When did the unholy undead that consumes human blood for sustenance turn into such pussies? Did I miss a memo in the last couple years announcing this horrible new age of vampires (I use that term loosely)?
Even if I didn’t get the memo the current state of vampirism blows and I want vampires back that are worthy advisories to legendary vampire hunter Van Helsing. Oh, and not the pretty boy version portrayed by Hugh Jackman (no offense, Hugh). No, I want that ass-kicking, master of decapitation Van Helsing that was Sir Anthony Hopkins from Bram Stoker’s Dracula.
Thankfully, there’s a film coming out that may satisfy my need for real vampires again. Daybreakers is a film about our world being run by vampires. Nearly the entire population has been turned and the blood supply, from nearly extinct humans, is running low. I’m actually a little surprised a film with this very premise has not come out sooner.
I saw the first trailer for Daybreakers at this years FanExpo and it literally stopped me in my tracks as I was walking by. Catching a glimpse of it out of the corner of my eye I actually stopped and couldn’t leave until it was over. Having just watched this trailer again I can tell you I’m just as excited.
Daybreakers looks bad-ass. Something us real vampire lovers can sink our teeth into. Yeah, bad joke but that’s what crap like Twilight has done to me.
Daybreakers hits theaters January 8, 2010. In the meantime, check out the official site.
