Over at Chris Pirillo’s website Barbara has written a great theory on the evolution from “nerd” to “geek”. Having always considered the two terms mutually exclusive, this new perspective puts a different spin on things and I can’t help but feel makes perfect sense. Barbara writes:
“Then, something strange began to happen. The nerds were transitioning, like an alien invasion across the world. Suddenly, they were hidden among us. Nerds were evolving into something more, something acceptable. They became what we now know as the “GEEKS”. GEEKS were receiving followers from across the waters. They were a new world phenomenon – they could look great AND be smart.”
Way to go Barbara for making us think and bridging two very interesting social dynamics.
