Just when you thought movies based on video games couldn’t get any lamer then Doom or Street Fighter (pick either of them) along comes Asteroids. TechCrunch is reporting on how Universal has “won a bidding war” (can you believe there were multiple parties interested in this?) for the rights to the 1979 video game. Oh, and did I mention it will be produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura…the guy who brought us the aforementioned Doom. Gee, what could possibly go wrong here?
Interestingly enough, for my above claim that Hollywood is out of ideas they’ll actually have to come up with a lot of them to make this film. As the original game had literally no story whatsoever the produces will be starting from scratch in regards to a script. Still, when I think about what could possible be done with this property my mind immediately goes to Wing Commander which was an interstellar wreck.
This whole idea is so bad only a movie based on something as stupid as a Viewmaster could be worse. What’s that? Hollywood’s making that as well? What the F%$k!
