How many TweetDecks do we need?

I was never a real fan of the Twitter desktop app, TweetDeck.  That was until they released their iPhone/iPod Touch app and I discovered the incredible interaction with Twitter it provided.  Hands down, best Twitter app ever!  Of course, as great as TweetDeck is things are starting to get ridiculous.

It all started when the TweetDeck developers learned that Blink-182 were huge fans of the application.  So, the folks behind TweetDeck created a branded version of the program based around the band.  Now, following in the footsteps of Blink-182 two tech sites have released similarly “tweaked” versions of TweetDeck: TechCrunch and Mashable.

I can’t tell you on how many levels of stupid this is.  The only discernable difference between these three custom TweetDecks and the regular one is the baked-in Twitter accounts for the respective “brand” and fancy graphics.  Is this necessary?  There’s nothing you can’t do with these custom versions that you could with the regular TweetDeck.  I suppose I can appreciate such notable sites promoting the greatness that is TweetDeck, but to splash your name all over it, come on.

All that being said, check out TweetDeck if you haven’t already because there’s no better way to interact with Twitter (especially on the iPhone/iPod Touch).
