Skynet Watch: Does the end start with the Xbox?

UAV-Hellfire-Missile

Ah, Skynet Watch, how I’ve missed you.

We all know that in the future the super-computer known as Skynet will turn on humanity and destroy the vast majority of us.  However, what did it do before becoming self aware?  As it turns out high-school dropouts may be the pilots of the first generation dreaded Hunter-Killers.  I already wrote about teenagers filling the UAV pilot ranks, but CrunchGear goes onto report just how far this is going:

“…P.W. Singer, a Senior Fellow over at the Brookings Institute, who, in his new book Wired for War: The Robotics Revolution and Conflict in the 21st Century, tells the story of a high school dropout who later became a drone pilot, using his skill he accrued while playing Xbox.”

The best part about this, that dropout became an instructor at the age of 19.  So, that’s how it’s going to play out it seems.  Video game enthusiasts will “teach” computers how to fly properly until the day they can control the drones themselves.
